Genealogical trees or lists (73) are undoubtedly the most important parts of the page. They consist of the individuals of particular families (dates, informations, photographs) and are supplemented with other surnames of Boruta relatives and kinsmen. The special site is devoted to General Mieczyslaw Ludwik Boruta-Spiechowicz, because of his Polish Legions nickname Boruta, which became both law and well known recognizing part of his surname.

Information about other remaining individuals in Poland with the surname Boruta can be found on the pages under Poland A-C, D-F, G-I, J-L, M-O, P-R, S-U, V-Z. One can see also maps and lists of the distribution of 2.758 individuals with the surname Boruta in Poland in 2002.

On the following pages I include further information from abroad about other individuals who had the Boruta name, or still do. This information relates to Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Great Britain, Holland, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Mexico, Norway, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, USA A-C, D-F, G-I, J-L, M-O, P-R, S-U, V-Z and Ukraine.

Professor Kazimierz Rymut in his work "Surnames of Poles" (pages 72 and 82) published in Wroclaw in 1991, tells us that he came upon the first mention of the Boruta "family name" in Poland in a document dating from 1269. The oldest is the document from 1237, issued in Brno (now in Czech Republic).

Families with the Boruta surname were represented by five separate coats of arms - Jastrzebiec (Bolesta), Lubicz, Nowina, Pobog and Rogala.

It is equally important to note that in Liber Generationis Plebeanorum ("Liber chamorum"), produced by Walerian Nekanda Trepka in 1620 and edited by Rafal Leszczynski in Wroclaw in 1995 (Second Edition), the name Boruta does not appear at all. This is important because Trepka's work contained a list of people of burgher or plebian origin who attempted, by one illegal means or another, to become members of the nobility.

Items on the name Boruta as a place name, as used in business, as a street name, as a pseudonym, as the name of the legendary characters, as the name of the legendary devil and the meaning of the word in different languages, together with other items, are constantly being revised...

I wish to express my sincere appreciation to Anna Boruta-Hill, David Hill and Caroline Hill for help in the English translation of some sites.
